Beacon Emergency Veterinary Hospital is a locally owned, veterinarian-led group of 24/7 emergency hospitals serving the Tampa Bay area. Founded in St. Petersburg in 2023, Beacon was created to provide a different kind of emergency veterinary experience for both pets and the people who love them.
At Beacon, we believe excellent medicine and genuine compassion go hand in hand. Our hospitals are built around collaborative medicine, strong nursing support, advanced equipment, and a people-focused culture where team members feel supported, respected, and empowered to grow.

Company History
Beacon Emergency Veterinary Hospital was founded in St. Petersburg, Florida in 2023 by Dr. Ellen Buerkett and Nathan Buerkett with the goal of creating a different kind of emergency veterinary hospital experience for both pets and the people who love them.
Built around the philosophy of “People Focused. Pet Driven.”, Beacon was created to combine excellent emergency medicine with genuine compassion, transparency, and comfort during some of the most stressful moments families experience with their pets.
Since opening its first hospital, Beacon has rapidly grown across the Tampa Bay area through a veterinarian-led, team-oriented approach that prioritizes strong culture, collaborative medicine, and accessibility to leadership. Beacon currently operates hospitals in St. Petersburg and Riverview, with a third 24/7 emergency hospital opening in Land O’ Lakes in Summer 2026.
Today, Beacon continues to grow with a focus on building exceptional teams, supporting veterinary professionals, and providing high-quality emergency and critical care medicine to the communities it serves.
